the Forlorn Hope
I watched a show on PBS the other night about the Donner Party. It's such an amazing story that I was familiar with, but never knew all the grisly details. My favorite part of the story is after being stranded and starving, 15 members of the party calling themselves "the forlorn hope," made snowshoes and set out over the mountain to get help. They were the first to eat one of the dead. Standing in the dark with their backs turned to each other. Shortly after, those stuck back at camp were eating people too. For some reason, I had to slap text on this picture I took out in the Gros Ventre Wilderness of Wyoming.
